TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) will speak at Berlin Freedom Week to mark the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, reports said Wednesday.
The German capital will mark 130 forums, exhibitions, movie showings, and cultural events to commemorate the 36th anniversary, per CNA. Tsai is scheduled to speak at the Nov. 10 Berlin Democracy Forum.
Taiwan will also be featured at other events during the week, with a Nov. 11 panel discussion about transitional justice, a Nov. 12 showing of the movie “Zero Day Attack,” and a Nov. 13 event introducing Taiwan night market culture.
In addition to Tsai, Ambassador-at-Large Audrey Tang (唐鳳) will join speakers including German Bundestag President Julia Kloeckner, Ukraine Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, and human rights activist Oleksandra Matviichuk, whose Center for Civil Liberties won the Nobel Peace Prize.
The speakers are among scientists, politicians, civil society leaders, and cultural personalities from more than 40 countries invited to speak at the Berlin Freedom Conference during the week. The main topic is cooperation between democratic nations to maintain the rule of law during a resurgence of authoritarian rule.
