TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan ranked 10th globally in the IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking, showing strong performance in research, education, and business agility.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs said Taiwan performed best in future readiness, rising three spots to third place, while ranking 11th in technology and 16th in knowledge, per CNA. It placed among the world’s top three in eight indicators, underscoring its strengths in research, higher education, and corporate responsiveness.
Among individual indicators, Taiwan ranked first in IT and media market capitalization as a share of GDP, and second in R&D expenditure and business adaptability. It also placed third in Programme for International Student Assessment math performance, higher education among young adults, and big data–driven decision-making.
The ministry said Taiwan’s progress in future readiness reflects its private sector’s agility and the government’s success in promoting digital resilience and data privacy. It said these improvements show that Taiwan is more prepared to face global technology shifts.
However, the ministry acknowledged that Taiwan’s technology ranking fell four places to 11th due to intensified global competition. It pledged to enhance the legal and policy framework for AI applications.
The ministry also noted areas for improvement such as the proportion of female researchers and the student-to-teacher ratio in higher education. It said agencies will work together to strengthen these areas.
