TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The final day of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders’ summit in South Korea saw no interactions between Taiwan’s chief delegate Lin Hsin-i (林信義) and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, reports said Saturday.
All delegation leaders, including heads of state and heads of government, lined up for the usual “family photo” at the end of the Oct. 31-Nov. 1 event in Gyeongju. They wore turquoise scarves inspired by traditional Korean attire.
As the leaders moved around before and after the taking the picture, Lin and Xi did not interact, CNA reported. For the photo, Lin was situated at one extreme of the line of leaders, next to Mexico’s Economics Minister Marcelo Ebrard and behind New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Before taking the photo, Lin went to shake hands and talk to Ebrard, and afterward, he looked up Malaysia Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Marcos then approached Lin, and they walked away while still talking to each other, reports said.
Lin also stopped to shake hands with the host, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, before leaving the site. Xi is scheduled to host next year's summit in Shenzhen.
