TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – National Science and Technology Council Minister Wu Cheng-wen (吳誠文) discussed AI with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation in South Korea, reports said Saturday.
The meeting occurred during an APEC Ministerial Meeting welcome dinner Wednesday, per CNA. The discussions also included delegates from other economies attending the event, the Taiwan delegation said.
The participants exchanged views about topics ranging from science and technology policies to the development of AI. Wu reportedly also met US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Michael DeSombre, and Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Jacob Helberg.
In a separate meeting between Taiwan and US officials, Taiwan’s chief delegate at the APEC event in Gyeongju, former Vice Premier Lin Hsin-i (林信義), spoke briefly with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Friday. According to an X post by the Treasury Department, they discussed investments in the US, resilient supply chains, and technology issues.
