TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Legislative Yuan Vice President Johnny Chiang (江啟臣) on Thursday met with a cross-party delegation from Ireland’s House of Representatives, calling for stronger exchanges between the two countries.
Chiang thanked the Irish Parliament and the Taiwan–Ireland Parliamentary Friendship Association for their long-standing support and friendship, per CNA. He said Taiwan and Ireland, though distant, share the same democratic values and human rights ideals.
He noted that lawmakers from both sides have met three times in three months, underscoring growing bilateral engagement.
Delegation leader Erin McGreehan said the visit to Taiwan was met with warmth and hospitality. She said she hoped the trip would boost cooperation in trade, education, and technology while promoting talent exchanges.
She also reaffirmed Ireland’s backing for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations such as the World Health Organization.
Citing parallels between the two nations’ challenges, McGreehan said Ireland’s experience with undersea cable infrastructure could open collaboration with Taiwan on maritime security.
