TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung will host its Seafood Feast Festival from Nov. 8 to Dec. 14, featuring food markets, art shows, and fishing-village tours, CNA reported Thursday.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) said the city accounts for half of Taiwan’s total fishery output and 90% of offshore fishing. From Qieding and Yongan to Cianjhen and Linyuan, each port showcases its local flavor and seafood culture, he said.
Chen added that Kaohsiung is not only a fishing hub but also a “food paradise,” where visitors can enjoy harbor views and sample fresh local catches.
He said the city’s seafood processing industry is booming, helped by guidance from the Marine Bureau. This year’s festival will also offer discounts so people can buy high-quality seafood at lower prices.
According to the Marine Bureau, the event will feature the popular character Malayan Tapir in a joint art project. From Nov. 7 to Dec. 7, the artwork will be displayed in Yongan, Mituo, and Ziguan, turning them into new selfie hotspots.
Last year’s edition drew large crowds for local dishes and seafood shows. Taiwan’s biggest port city used the festival to spotlight its fishing industry, which it says produces over half of the country’s total catch.
