TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Lima Chamber of Commerce President Roberto de la Tore said Peru’s business community supports Taiwan’s bid to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, CNA reported Tuesday.
Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Ming-chi (陳明祺) thanked de la Tore for his support. Chen said Taiwan’s trade system meets the pact’s high standards and would bring new energy to the group.
Chen noted that Taiwan and Peru value free trade and fair global rules. He said working together can build stronger and more sustainable economic ties.
De la Tore said Peru’s business community will keep helping Taiwan reach its CPTPP goal. He also invited Taiwanese companies to invest in Peru’s free-trade zones.
According to MOFA, de la Tore and his delegation visited Taiwan from last Thursday to this Monday. They met government officials and attended major trade shows to learn more about Taiwan’s tech and AI sectors.
The CPTPP is a trade pact that aims to lower tariffs and set high standards for trade and investment. Taiwan formally applied to join the pact in 2021 but was denied.
