TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The annual science and technology cooperation conference with Taiwan, Latvia, and Lithuania was held on Thursday in Riga, Latvia, to deepen collaboration in AI, CNA reported on Saturday.
National Science and Technology Council Deputy Minister Chen Bing-yu (陳炳宇) led the Taiwanese delegation. Chen co-chaired the conference with Latvian and Lithuanian education and science officials to review joint research outcomes and pick new joint research projects.
Taiwan began scientific cooperation with Latvia and Lithuania in 2000, forming a fund for trilateral research. Since 2002, the three nations have held annual meetings in rotation among their capitals.
This year’s discussions focused on AI development. Taiwan presented its "Ten Major AI Projects,” which target smart applications, key technologies, and digital infrastructure.
Taiwan also promoted its “Southern Taiwan Silicon Valley.” The program is based in Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City in Tainan to link government, industry, and academia.
Latvian officials pointed out their plan to expand expertise in smart technology and digital information. Lithuanian representatives also expressed interest in building stronger AI partnerships across universities and industries, per NSTC.
