TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Line Taiwan’s instant-report system detects and disables scam accounts in a single second, helping protect online users, CNA reported Friday.
Given its widespread use in Taiwan, Line has long been a target for scam groups. To combat this, the company built a reporting network that links directly with government agencies, including the Ministry of Digital Affairs and National Police Agency.
Since May 2023, Line Taiwan has processed over 110,000 scam-related accounts and helped take down more than 1,000 phishing domains with telecom operators. Domain removal times have dropped from several days to 24 hours.
Line Public Affairs head Lin Jo-fan (林若凡) said the company’s anti-fraud strategy has evolved from manual operations to an automated model. The system launched in November last year operates 24/7 and reduces victims per scam account from about 100 to just 15.
To curb impersonation scams, Line introduced a real-name verification system in August, marking verified government accounts with a blue shield showing the name, title, and agency. A new DNS-level blocking mechanism is expected to block around 80% of local internet users from accessing scam websites.
Lin said recent work with the Criminal Investigation Bureau identified 73,000 scam accounts linked to high-risk phone numbers that were suspended. She added that stronger coordination and faster takedown times are helping rebuild public trust and protect users from digital crime.
