TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) signed the special resilience budget into law on Thursday, confirming a NT$10,000 (US$320) universal cash handout for the public.
Handouts will come from NT$236 billion set aside from the budget, per Liberty Times. It was approved by the Legislative Yuan last week, per CNA.
The Office of the President confirmed the decree was issued Thursday evening, completing the final step for the special resilience program’s implementation.
Finance Minister Chuang Tsui-yun (莊翠雲) said details of the rollout will be revealed following promulgation. Cash payments are expected to begin in early November and will follow the same procedures as last year’s NT$6,000 cash handout.
There will be five ways to receive the handout: online registration for direct deposit, ATM withdrawal, post office collection, automatic deposit, or manual list-based distribution. Payments are expected to start with direct deposit recipients.
