TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Education said Thursday that all three levels of the Taiwanese proficiency test will be computer-based beginning in 2026.
Only the writing section will remain paper-based, the education ministry said in a press release. Test-takers can practice on a simulation platform in advance to familiarize themselves with the digital testing system.
The ministry said the March 2026 test will include A, B, and C levels, administered on separate days:
Level A: March 7, 2026
Levels B and C: March 8, 2026
Meanwhile, the July session will continue to include only Levels A and B.
The ministry added that children under 6 years old and seniors 65 and older who find it difficult to operate a computer throughout the exam can apply for special assistance. Other candidates can use the online computer-based test simulation platform, available under the “self-study resources” section on its website.
The registration fee for the test is NT$250 (US$8.12). Those under 19 can take it for free.
Additionally, starting in 2026, candidates who meet the passing criteria will receive digital certificates instead of printed ones. The certificates can be verified online through the ministry’s electronic certificate verification system.
Further details are available on the Taiwanese Proficiency Test website.
