TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Representative to the US Alexander Yui (俞大㵢) said the US is doing its best to deliver all 66 F-16V fighter jets by next year during Axios' Future of Defense summit, CNA reported Thursday.
Yui spoke about arms sales, trade, and China’s military threat during the summit on Wednesday. He said the US government and defense contractors are trying to fix delays in weapon deliveries worth more than US$20 billion (NT$640 billion).
Yui noted that Taiwan bought the F-16V Block 70 jets during US President Donald Trump’s first term. The first jet came off the production line in March, and both countries hope to finish all deliveries by 2026, while exploring joint production and technology transfers.
When asked about the trade deal with the US, he said both nations are close to finalizing an agreement. He said communication between the US and Taiwan is smooth and stable.
On Tuesday, Defense Minister Wellington Koo (顧立雄) said the F-16V delivery schedule is still uncertain despite some progress. He noted that delays and production problems could push delivery past 2026.
