TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s government announced it will soon have another representative office in the United States, this time in Tennessee, following a visit to the East Asian nation by the state’s governor, per CNA.
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) hosted a welcoming dinner for Governor Bill Lee on Monday, and the foreign ministry announced the establishment of the new diplomatic office in a press release on Wednesday. Lee and his delegation also met with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德).
In his dinner remarks, Lin praised Lee for signing a memorandum of understanding on trade cooperation between Taiwan and Tennessee, in addition to signing a friendship resolution passed by the state’s legislature. He added that he looks forward to both parties furthering their collaboration on industrial supply chains, education, and talent development.
Lee, who also announced that Tennessee will be opening a trade office in Taiwan, thanked Lin for his hospitality. He touted his state as one of the most attractive for investment in the US and emphasized his commitment to increased cooperation with Taiwan.
The governor also visited with officials from the economics ministry and met with Taiwanese industry representatives on his trip. Per the press release, Taiwan is the seventh largest source of imports for Tennessee and its 18th largest export market.
