TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei City Government will raise a new pride flag to support diversity at Taiwan's Pride parade on Saturday, CNA reported Wednesday.
The parade's theme this year, “Beyond Links: More than Clicks,” calls for open dialogue and understanding among people with diverse perspectives. The city government said raising a new pride flag shows care for the LGBTQ community.
The city's cultural affairs department will also hold a “Rainbow Market” and concert at the Red House from Oct. 24-26. Booths will be set up along City Hall Road, sharing information about gender equality and community safety.
Last year’s parade focused on inclusion and coexistence, encouraging the public to move beyond visibility toward genuine participation in public life. Organizers said this year’s theme continues that message but also responds to a growing global backlash against diversity and inclusion movements.
According to Taiwan LGBT+ Pride, debates around issues such as surrogacy and gender identity have become polarized on social media. The parade’s call to “cross labels” aims to help people see beyond stereotypes and listen to others’ experiences.
Event organizers said humor and memes often hide subtle discrimination against LGBTQ people. The parade invites the public to move from online clicks to real-life understanding and respect for everyone’s identity.
