TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) delivered the keynote address at the 22nd National Brand Yushan Award ceremony in Taipei on Tuesday, urging Taiwanese brands to remain deeply rooted in the nation while continuing to expand into international markets.
Hsiao cited Taiwan’s semiconductor industry as an example of how a locally rooted ecosystem can achieve global success. She described the industry as the “mountains that protect the nation,” symbolizing Taiwan’s strength and resilience in the face of growing global competition, per CNA.
“Yushan, Taiwan’s highest peak, represents perseverance, courage, and an unyielding spirit,” Hsiao said. “Each Yushan Award embodies this same commitment to quality, service, and social responsibility.”
Acknowledging the daily challenges of brand management, Hsiao commended local enterprises for their persistence and innovation. She noted that despite global economic uncertainty, supply chain restructuring, and tariff pressures, Taiwanese firms have continued to thrive through innovation and adaptability.
Hsiao emphasized that Taiwan’s success in semiconductors stems from decades of accumulated expertise and collaboration. She said countries such as the US, Germany, and Japan have integrated themselves into the global technology ecosystem to promote economic prosperity. She praised TSMC for doing the same, building a more secure and resilient technology ecosystem.
“The deeper the roots are in Taiwan, the more they branch out and bear fruit globally,” Hsiao said. “The government will remain a strong supporter of businesses, helping create an environment where Taiwanese brands can grow confidently and competitively.”
She also referenced government initiatives in AI and policies aimed at supporting Taiwanese enterprises returning from abroad, stressing that these programs are designed to help local companies maintain their roots while expanding internationally.
ELTA Technology was among this year’s top winners, taking home three major awards, including “Outstanding Enterprise” and “Outstanding Enterprise Leader.” ELTA Technology Chair Sally Chen (陳怡君) accepted the honors from Hsiao, dedicating them to the company’s employees and pledging continued innovation and global expansion, per UDN.
Chen said ELTA remains committed to its “innovation-driven” and “quality-first” philosophy, adding that the company’s investments in OTT streaming and AI-powered video applications are transforming Taiwan’s digital media landscape by offering viewers smarter and more interactive experiences.
