TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Following Cheng Li-wun’s (鄭麗文) election as KMT chair, TPP Chair Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) expressed hope on Sunday that the KMT’s partnership with the TPP will not be harmed.
In the past, Cheng has expressed disapproval of the TPP and its founder Ko Wen-je (柯文哲). Her critical comments during the 2024 election have sparked speculation that the KMT–TPP coalition may become strained once she takes office in November, reported UDN.
Speaking to reporters, Huang said people in Taiwan are willing to let old disagreements go and that both parties have turned the page. He compared the situation to his previous criticisms of Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) and their current ability to work together in the legislature.
Huang said he congratulated Cheng on her victory Saturday night and afterward met with Ko to discuss strategies for the blue-white coalition. He said both parties remain committed to promoting common values and ideas, denying that Cheng Li-wun would harm TPP–KMT relations.
Huang added that the current partnership has already laid the foundation for a potential coalition government in the years ahead.
