TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Top business leaders from Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea met with US President Donald Trump on Saturday for a day of golf and private talks on investment and tariff negotiations.
Yonhap News first reported that Trump invited the foreign business leaders to his Trump International Golf Club in Florida. The meeting was reportedly arranged by SoftBank Chair Masayoshi Son, and the day’s activities lasted nearly seven hours.
Korean media reported that the Korean delegation included the chairs of Samsung, SK Group, Hyundai Motor, and LG. However, as of Sunday, the White House had not confirmed the identities of any guests from Taiwan who met with Trump on the golf course.
There is ongoing speculation about which Taiwanese and Japanese leaders were present. However, TSMC said it did not take part in the event, saying no company representatives were present and citing ongoing tensions between the US and China, per UDN.
Attendees were organized into groups of four, with 12 groups in total, reported Chosun Daily. Each group consisted of one US government official, one professional golfer, and two foreign executives.
