TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Mainland Affairs Council on Saturday condemned the publication of a list by Chinese media accusing Taiwanese corporations of psychological warfare.
The naming of five companies follows on from the Public Security Bureau in the Chinese city of Xiamen promising bounties for information about 18 military officers in Taiwan. China accused the officers of waging psychological warfare by setting up websites criticizing Beijing and promoting “separatism.”
An official Chinese media account claimed Friday that “friends on the island” had revealed five businesses had helped with the launch of websites and games, the Liberty Times reported. The Chinese media issued a warning, calling on the companies to stop their activities.
The Mainland Affairs Council said that anyone found cooperating with the Chinese campaign could face prosecution under the National Security Act and other legislation. The council added that China’s behavior posed a collective threat to Taiwanese, per CNA.
