TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — East Taiwan experienced a magnitude 5.3 earthquake at 10:04 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Central Weather Administration.
The epicenter was located 56.9 km northeast of Hualien County hall with a depth of 14.3 km.
Taiwan uses a scale of 1 to 7 to measure a quake’s intensity at a specific location. Hualien and Yilan Counties experienced an intensity level of 3 while New Taipei City, Nantou County, Taoyuan City, Taichung City, Taipei City, and Hsinchu County felt a level 2.
Keelung City, Miaoli County, Hsinchu City, Taitung County, Chiayi County, Changhua County, Yunlin County, and Chiayi City experienced a level 1.
