TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) leads among Kuomintang supporters in a new Taiwan Public Opinion Foundation poll, while Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) tops the same survey among the general public ahead of Saturday’s party chair election, SETN reported Friday.
Among self-identified KMT supporters, Cheng draws 28.6% support, ahead of Hau’s 21.2% and Lo Chih-chiang (羅智強) at 17.8%. In the nationwide sample, Hau leads with 24.2% to Cheng’s 14.1%, with Lo at 9%.
Analysts noted that nationwide results are a poor predictor of an internal party contest decided by dues-paying KMT members, where Cheng currently holds the edge among the party base, per SETN.
At a rally Thursday, Cheng vowed to turn the KMT “from a flock of sheep into a pride of lions,” CNA reported. The KMT will vote Saturday, with results expected the same day.
TPOF said it surveyed 1,070 adults by landline and mobile from Monday to Wednesday; the sample was weighted by age, gender, region, and education, with a margin of error of ±3 percentage points.
