TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan praised a recent wave of US support in the form of bills and statements.
In a press release, AmCham Taiwan said the US Senate’s approval of the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act reaffirms "the principles of stability, openness, and cooperation” in Taiwan-US ties and the global business environment. The act allocates US$1 billion (NT$30.61 billion) in military aid for Taiwan and urges its participation in the next Rim of the Pacific Exercise.
AmCham Taiwan said it supported the four bills under Senate review: the Porcupine Act, which would accelerate US arms sales to Taiwan by granting it “NATO Plus” treatment; the Taiwan International Solidarity Act, which reaffirms that Taiwan’s international status can only be decided by the Taiwanese; the Deter PRC Aggression Against Taiwan Act, which seeks to create an interagency mechanism for coordinating economic and financial responses to potential acts of Chinese aggression; and the US-Taiwan Partnership in the Americas Act, which aims to bolster Taiwan’s diplomatic and economic engagement with Latin American and Caribbean allies.
AmCham Taiwan is also looking forward to the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations hearing on Taiwan-related legislation next Wednesday. “Together, these measures strengthen Taiwan’s security, expand its diplomatic space, and deepen its global partnerships — priorities vital to maintaining investor confidence and regional stability,” it said.
AmCham Taiwan welcomed US Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy’s request to include Taiwan in the International Civil Aviation Organization, which the chamber also supports.
The chamber said it is ready to meet with Taiwanese and US politicians to keep Taiwan a trusted global partner.
