TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said Tuesday (Oct. 14) the Cabinet is drafting an amendment to ensure a fairer distribution of resources, CNA reported.
Cho said the government wants a clear division of authority and a balanced share of financial resources. He added that local governments receiving more tax revenue should also “shoulder more responsibilities.”
Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun (鄭麗君) will meet with ministries to finalize details before sending the draft to the Legislative Yuan. Cho said the act should be sustainable and reflect cross-party views.
He added that the Cabinet is reviewing earlier disputes over the law and plans to resolve issues raised during reconsideration. The goal, he said, is a complete version that wins local support and legislative approval.
Cho also addressed concern over the military pay raise budget, saying it depends on the Constitutional Court’s ruling. If deemed constitutional, the Cabinet will allocate funds and implement it retroactively.
The Act Governing the Allocation of Government Revenues and Expenditures defines how financial resources are divided between the central and local governments. It aims to promote balanced regional development and clarify administrative responsibilities at each level.
