TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s hopes of qualifying for the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia rest on a must-win home match against Thailand on Tuesday, per UDN.
At a pregame press conference on Monday, head coach Huang Che-ming (黃哲明) emphasized the importance of the match. Team captain Chen Po-liang (陳柏良) echoed the sentiment, saying the players are determined to fight until the end. “We must play our style and give it our all,” Chen said.
Taiwan is in Group D, along with Thailand, Turkmenistan, and Sri Lanka. Only the top team in each group advances. Group play features both home and away games against each group opponent.
Taiwan currently sits at the bottom of the table after three straight losses and needs to win its remaining matches to have any chance of advancing. The team lost 0-2 to Thailand in their previous meeting on Thursday.

“Our goal is to secure three points in every remaining match,” Huang said. “I believe our players will perform better in front of the home crowd.”
Fans can purchase tickets at Taipei Stadium before kickoff. Tickets range from NT$300 to NT$600 (US$10 to US$20). The match will also be broadcast live on Videoland Sports and various online platforms.
Future games include an away match against Turkmenistan on Nov. 18 and a home match against Sri Lanka on March 31, 2026.
