TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Navy plans to send components from its ship-launched Harpoon missiles to the US for maintenance.
It has budgeted NT$870 million (US$28.45 million) next year for the work, Liberty Times reported. Because Harpoon systems include high-end components and assemblies, some repairs must be handled by Boeing, the original manufacturer.
Taiwan fields three Harpoon variants: air-launched missiles carried by F-16 fighters and P-3C patrol aircraft; submarine-launched missiles on Hai Lung-class submarines; and ship-launched missiles mounted on multiple Navy vessels.
Taiwan has also purchased 100 land-launched Harpoon systems, with 32 to be delivered by the end of 2026 and the remaining 68 arriving by 2028.
Five missile-launcher vehicles and one radar vehicle have already arrived and are being used by the Navy’s Haifeng Squadron for training.
Once the land-launched systems are fully operational, Taiwan will have four Harpoon variants across its armed forces.
