TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum welcomed its 10 millionth visitor Saturday, just months before its 10th anniversary.
The museum in Taibao City, Chiayi County, first opened its doors to the public on December 28, 2015. The lucky visitor, a woman from Keelung named Lo (羅), and the visitors before and after her all received special souvenirs of the occasion, per CNA.
Lo said she had taken her parents to visit the museum for its exhibition of “Treasures in the Palace of Heavenly Purity” and to watch a drone show Saturday night. It was her second visit to the southern branch, she said.
Museum Director Hsiao Tsung-huang (蕭宗煌) said that over the past decade, the southern branch had attracted different age groups and diverse types of visitors while emphasizing lively educational activities and a variety of exhibition topics. In addition to welcoming 10 million visitors over a decade, 2025 was likely to end with 1 million visitors for the year, he said.
The National Palace Museum as a whole was marking its 100th anniversary this year. In addition to the Northern Branch in Taipei’s Shilin District, some of its artifacts were also on show at the National Museum in Prague until the end of the year, in an exhibition called “100 Treasures, 100 Stories: Treasures from the National Palace Museum.”
