TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — National Taiwan University of Science and Technology has partnered with a US-based cybersecurity company, Offensive Security, to introduce cybersecurity courses with certification training to enhance the nation’s cybersecurity talent pool.
The courses cover topics such as penetration testing, threat hunting, and security operations management. The program combines practical exercises using the company’s network threat detection system, giving students hands-on experience with cybersecurity operations, per CNA.
The two agencies signed a memorandum of understanding earlier this month. Attendees at the signing included Teng Wei-chung (鄧維中), a professor from the Computer Science and Information Engineering Department at the university; Cha Shi-cho (查士朝), a professor from the Information Management Department; and David Zhao, Asia regional director and business builder at the company.
Cha said the program includes the Offensive Security Certified Professional, a cybersecurity certification offered by the company. It is designed to validate penetration testing skills and is recognized as an essential credential for professionals in the cybersecurity field.
In addition, the courses will also teach students how to defend against cyberattacks. The university said the program will offer simulated malware attack scenarios, giving students hands-on experience in detecting and responding to cyber threats.
The university added that it was one of Taiwan’s earliest institutions to establish cybersecurity research and education programs. In 2022, it launched a master’s program in information security and management. The school has also worked with the Ministry of Education to support the development of cybersecurity talent in Taiwan.
In October 2022, the university partnered with another US-based cybersecurity company, Palo Alto Networks, to introduce cybersecurity courses. The company also donated computer equipment to the school, helped establish a research center, and supported cybersecurity instructor training.
