TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Ten environmental organizations said Thursday that they will host the “March for Climate — Building a Resilient Taiwan” on Nov. 1 in Taipei to raise climate crisis awareness.
The march will begin and end at Taipei Civic Plaza, adjacent to Taipei City Hall. The afternoon-long event will feature speeches, musical performances, street artists, and a sustainability marketplace.
Timed ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), scheduled for Nov. 10–21, the march aims to spotlight Taiwan’s environmental challenges and the need for resilience in the face of global climate disruption.
Organizers emphasized that climate change affects far more than ecosystems, also impacting vulnerable communities, workers’ rights, cultural diversity, and intergenerational justice. This year’s march will therefore bring together a wider coalition, including labor unions, Indigenous organizations, and youth alliances.

They warned that increasingly extreme weather, rising geopolitical tensions, and debates over renewable energy development threaten both global stability and Taiwan’s sustainable future.
Organizers believe climate change is no longer a distant issue, but something that is happening here and now. In a statement, they called upon the public to recognize the urgency of the crisis and join together to safeguard the next generation’s future.
The coalition will also present 11 policy demands to strengthen Taiwan’s response to the climate emergency:
- Uphold Taiwan’s nuclear phase-out and raise decarbonization targets to keep global warming below 1.5 C
- Implement land-use planning to ensure fair access to green energy and build climate resilience
- Use ecological expertise and local knowledge to protect and restore ecosystems and biodiversity
- Defend the right of children and youth to be heard and to participate in climate decision-making
- Enforce the polluter-pays principle to strengthen low-carbon industrial competitiveness
- Reduce dependence on imported energy and enhance national energy security
- Mobilize all sectors to adapt to climate impact and protect shared futures
- Build inclusive systems to ensure a just transition that safeguards communities and decent work
- Promote democratic participation in renewable energy development to minimize conflict
- Defend the cultural and land rights of Taiwan’s Indigenous peoples
- Reject wars that worsen the climate crisis and end support for genocidal regimes
Participating groups include the Green Citizens’ Action Alliance, Citizen of the Earth, Taiwan Climate Action Network, Taiwan Environment and Planning Association, Environmental Rights Foundation, Homemakers United Foundation, Taiwan Youth Climate Coalition, Mom Loves Taiwan Association, Greenpeace Taiwan, and Amnesty International Taiwan.
