TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of National Defense has confirmed that production of the Hsiung Sheng missile, the Wan Chien missile, and the Chien Hsiang anti-radiation loitering munition has been completed and is being deployed.
The Hsiung Sheng missile is an extended-range Hsiung II E ground-launched cruise missile with a range of 1,200 kilometers. More than 100 units have been produced, per Liberty Times.
The Hsiung Sheng has two types: one with a high-explosive warhead designed to strike hardened command centers and bunkers. The other is armed with a dispersal warhead intended to disable enemy airfield runways.
The Wan Chien missile is carried by Taiwan’s domestically produced Indigenous Defense Fighter. Fired from a high altitude, it can inflict wide-area lethality against Chinese airbases and troop concentrations.
It had an annual production rate of about 50 missiles, with 150 missiles already handed over to the Air Force.
A military official said last year that NCSIST was making 48 Chien Hsiang loitering munitions per year, totaling nearly 200 by 2025. The drone has been developed into other variants, one of which can be mounted on ships or vehicles to strike targets day or night and is capable of beyond-visual-range attacks.
Meanwhile, the land-based Sky Bow III and Sky Sword II systems are both nearing completion. Production of all Hsiung Feng missile variants and their installation on Coast Guard vessels are proceeding on schedule, with an implementation rate of 100%.
