TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Chen Wen-huei (陳玟卉) claimed bronze in the women’s 69 kg clean and jerk competition at the World Weightlifting Championships in Norway, lifting 132 kilograms to secure a spot on the podium.
The two-time Olympian, who is recovering from a back strain, was competing in a heavier 69 kg category for the first time. Her coach, Huang Da-te (黃達德), said Chen is still adjusting to the new weight class while managing her injury, per CNA.
In her signature clean and jerk event, Chen lifted 127 kg on her first attempt and 132 kg on her second. She narrowly missed her final lift of 136 kg after dropping the bar during the final recovery stage of the lift.
In the snatch segment, Chen completed her first lift of 100kg but failed to clear the higher weights of 104 kg and 105 kg. With a total of 232 kg across both events, she placed fifth overall in the competition.
Coach Huang said he was satisfied with Chen’s performance, noting her steady progress despite physical challenges. Huang said Chen’s current focus is on preparing for the 2026 Nagoya Asian Games.
He also noted that the International Weightlifting Federation has yet to announce weight classes for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. This would be a factor that could influence training plans for athletes in lighter divisions.
