TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — DPP Legislator Liu Chien-kuo (劉建國) welcomed Thai-based Taiwanese entrepreneurs at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on Tuesday as they returned for National Day celebrations.
Liu told CNA that overseas Taiwanese remain deeply connected to Taiwan. He praised their efforts to uphold Taiwan’s sovereignty while strengthening economic links with Thailand.
According to Liu, Taiwan’s direct investment in Thailand reached 49.9 billion baht (NT$46.7 billion) in 2024, up 2.8 times from 2019 and higher than Japan’s investment for the first time. He said such progress reflects close cooperation between the two countries.
Thai-Taiwan Business Association President Chen Han-chuan (陳漢川) said nearly 100 members joined the homecoming group to celebrate National Day. He added that Thai-based Taiwanese enterprises plan to deepen partnerships in technology, industry, and services.
Chang Ling-chin (張玲琴), chair of the Taiwan Association of Thailand, has lived in Thailand for over 50 years. She said the group felt grateful for Taiwan’s advancement and government support for overseas Taiwanese.
On Monday, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand also hosted a dinner reception for the Taiwanese community in celebration of the National Day at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel. Thai officials, military, media, and overseas groups attended the event.
Taiwan's representative in Thailand, Peter Sha-Li Lan (藍夏禮), said during the event that Taiwan and Thailand have a long-standing friendship and fruitful cooperation. He pointed out that Taiwan will be a key partner in Thailand’s economic future.
