TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan City’s Cultural Affairs Bureau is holding its first background-actor training workshop to cultivate local talent and attract more film and television productions.
The program brings in industry professionals, including acting coaches and production staff, to teach acting fundamentals, on-camera techniques, and proper on-set etiquette, per CNA. “Light the Night” director Lien Yi-chi (連奕琦) will personally select participants, who will also practice on simulated sets.
Cultural Affairs Bureau Director Huang Ya-ling (黃雅玲) said the initiative is part of a broader effort to balance resources between northern and southern Taiwan and to build a more evenly distributed film industry. The city aims to develop a pool of skilled actors that can draw productions and support a sustainable local ecosystem.
The workshop emphasizes both mindset and skills, helping participants portray a range of roles from street vendors and crowd extras to office workers. Alongside performance training, the program stresses professionalism and on-set behavior to prepare participants to become standout extras and enhance Tainan’s long-term appeal as a filming destination.
