TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Deputy Minister of Health and Welfare Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) said in a Facebook post that he was treated for stomach cancer.
Chuang said he received treatment at Taipei Veterans General Hospital last year while serving as director-general of the Centers for Disease Control, per UDN. He said he is recovering well and fully able to continue serving in his current post.
He thanked his doctors, the hospital support team, and his family for helping him through treatment. He also credited the help of his ancestors for his successful recovery.
Chuang said he was diagnosed in early 2024. He did not disclose the specific treatment period.
Taipei Veterans General Hospital Director Chen Wei-ming (陳威明) responded to Chuang’s post, thanking him for his trust and recognition of the medical team. The hospital said it would not disclose details of his condition or treatment in line with patient-privacy rules.
Chuang served as CDC director-general from February 2023 through July 2025. He was appointed deputy minister at the start of September.
