TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A fishing vessel registered in Keelung caught fire not far from the north coast of Taiwan Friday morning.
A Taiwanese captain and six Indonesian crew members were rescued by the Coast Guard after the Chin-yu Man-yu caught fire, reported UDN. The fire reportedly engulfed the ship quickly, forcing the crew to jump into the ocean.
The Coast Guard Administration station at Dawulun Beach received a report at 7 a.m. that a fishing boat was burning near the Waimushan coastal area. Two patrol boats were dispatched to rescue the crew and assist with putting out the fire.
Keelung Fire Department assisted by dispatching an ambulance to the scene, However, the crew members were all unharmed and did not require medical assistance.
One crew member told reporters that the fire began in the engine room. The boat had reportedly undergone repairs on Thursday, per UDN.
