TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s three leading container carriers are teaming up to launch a direct North China–Indonesia route starting Oct. 31.
Evergreen Marine, Wan Hai Lines, and Yang Ming Marine announced the new route Tuesday, citing rising China–Southeast Asia trade and demand from emerging markets, per CNA.
The route will use five vessels ranging from 2,400–3,000 TEU, jointly deployed by the three carriers, per UDN. Weekly sailings will operate on a 35-day rotation, with the maiden voyage departing Dalian on Nov. 1.
Ports of call include Dalian, Xingang, Qingdao, Ningbo, Surabaya, Jakarta, Singapore, Port Klang, Kaohsiung, and return to Dalian.
Yang Ming and Wan Hai said the route will integrate with existing services to create a more seamless shipping network. The move aims to meet increasing customer demand for reliable intra-Asia logistics.
The three carriers’ joint venture is expected to increase coverage between North China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Kaohsiung. It also strengthens Taiwan’s role as a key hub in intra-Asia maritime logistics.
Industry observers said direct North China–Indonesia service reduces transit times and improves shipping flexibility. The route is seen as a strategic response to evolving trade patterns in Asia.
