TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s National Day celebrations will feature the largest fireworks show in nearly a decade and revive the 1980s “diamond stage” variety format, with an Oct. 9 outdoor concert in Taichung and a 40-minute fireworks show on Oct. 10 in Nantou.
According to CNA, the concert will take place Oct. 9 at the Fulfillment Amphitheater in Wenxin Forest Park, Taichung. Local officials estimate capacity at 6,000–8,000 in the main venue, with a secondary viewing area bringing total attendance to about 14,000.
City and county authorities plan to recreate the “diamond stage” aesthetics popular in the 1980s and will host performances by entertainers Hu Gua (胡瓜), Bai Bing-bing (白冰冰), Yang Fan (陽帆), and Ye Ai-ling (葉璦菱).
The fireworks show will be launched Oct. 10 near Maoluo Creek and the Lover’s Bridge, adjacent to Nantou’s convention center.
Nantou County Magistrate Hsu Shu-hua (許淑華) said this is the first time the county will host the National Day fireworks, with 43,885 shots planned — the most in 10 years.
