TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Luke J. Lindberg, US undersecretary for trade and foreign agricultural affairs, is in Taiwan to expand market access and boost US agricultural exports.
From Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, Lindberg will engage with leaders from the US Meat Export Federation and Taiwan’s meat industry, according to the American Institute in Taiwan. He will also lead a roundtable discussion with US agricultural representatives and participate in a forum co-hosted by AIT and the US Grains and BioProducts Council.
The delegation comprises 39 agribusinesses and trade organizations, and representatives from three state departments of agriculture, per the US Department of Agriculture.
Taiwan is the eighth-largest market for US agricultural exports.
“As a high-income economy, Taiwan consumers want nothing but the best, and American producers are uniquely positioned to deliver on that demand,” Lindberg said. “We aim to lock in recent commitments that Taiwan made to American producers and win new sales that will support family farms back home.”
Lindberg’s arrival follows a Taiwan agricultural trade mission to the US earlier this month. The group aimed to deepen agricultural exchanges and strengthen the Taiwan–US partnership in economy, trade, and food security.
The group pledged to buy more than NT$332 billion (US$10 billion) in US agricultural products over the next four years. It also signed procurement letters of intent with multiple states to purchase corn and soybeans.
