TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Donations for disaster relief in Hualien County have surpassed NT$430 million (US$14.1 million) in just four days, nearly reaching the fundraising foundation’s goal following flooding caused by Typhoon Ragasa.
To assist flood victims in Guangfu Township, the Taiwan Foundation for Disaster Relief is running a campaign from Sept. 25 to Oct. 24, with a target of NT$500 million, per Liberty Times. All funds will be earmarked specifically for disaster relief, emergency medical aid, and reconstruction efforts to help victims.
By Sunday, more than 183,000 donations had been received, totaling NT$433 million. This includes NT$207 million from ATM and in-person bank transfers, NT$176 million via LinePay, and NT$50 million from convenience stores.
LinePay led in transaction volume with 128,000 donations, followed by ATM/in-person transfers with 29,000, and convenience stores with 24,000. The foundation said funds will be distributed according to its guidelines, covering relief such as compensation for deaths, missing persons, serious injuries, relocation, rental subsidies, and flood or landslide damages.
Local governments will first estimate the number of victims, after which the foundation will disburse funds. Recipient lists are then submitted for verification to streamline distribution.
The foundation also explained that, based on fundraising results and victims’ needs, it will coordinate with central and local authorities to allocate funds for special relief projects.
Donations can be made to the Taiwan Foundation for Disaster Relief (財團法人賑災基金會) at Land Bank of Taiwan, Changchun Branch (土地銀行長春分行), per CNA.
Contributions can also be made through LinePay by pressing the “donation” button and selecting the “Mataian River Barrier Lake Disaster Fundraising Program” (馬太鞍溪堰塞湖災害專案). Donations are likewise accepted at 7-Eleven’s ibon, FamilyMart’s FamiPort, Hi-Life’s Life-ET, and OKmart’s OK.go kiosks.
