TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Ko Ping-chung (柯秉中) claimed his second World Pool-Billiard Association Men’s 10-Ball World Championship on Sunday in Vietnam, following his first victory in 2019.
Ko defeated Alexander Kazakis of Greece 3-1 in the final. On his way to the title, he overcame top competitors, including this year's World Pool champion Carlo Biado of the Philippines in the semifinals, according to CNA and UDN.
The final used a best-of-five sets format, with each set going to the first player to pocket four balls. Ko dominated early, winning the first two sets 4-0 and 4-2.
Kazakis claimed the third set 4-1, but Ko regained control in the fourth. He built a quick 2-0 lead, then recovered after Kazakis won three balls in a row, pocketing the next two to secure the championship.
Reflecting on the match, Ko said the fourth-set error was a challenging moment but emphasized staying calm and focusing on each shot. He said the win brought joy but was less emotionally intense than his first world title in 2019, when he was too excited to sleep, according to LTN Sports.
Looking ahead, Ko aims for the 9-Ball World Championship, the oldest event in professional pool.
