TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taiwan Railways Administration has announced nine extra train services and arranged for all north and southbound trains to stop at Guangfu Township, which was severely affected by Typhoon Ragasa.
To support disaster relief efforts, four DMU diesel trains with 12 carriages, one EMU3000 Tze-Chiang Limited Express, two push-pull Tze-Chiang Limited Express trains, and two local trains have been added, TRA said on Monday.
Additionally, standing tickets are now permitted on all Tze-Chiang Limited Express services between Hualien and Taitung to accommodate more passengers, the administration said. Train No. 4124’s service has also been extended from Hualien to Guangfu in both directions, stopping at Jian, Zhixue, Shoufeng, Fenglin, and Wanrong stations.
To ease congestion, Guangfu Station's gates are kept open, and passengers are issued proof-of-boarding slips instead of tickets. Passenger flow management and safety measures are being strengthened during peak hours between 7–10 a.m. and 3:30–7:30 p.m., the administration said.
TRA said it would continue to coordinate with central and local disaster response agencies, adjusting train services as needed.
