TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Eight members of the National Taiwan Normal University Mountaineering Club were camping in the Fengshan Scenic Area in Alishan Township on Saturday when they were suddenly attacked by hornets.
Two male students were stung, one of whom suffered seven stings and was in serious condition. Police responded to the group’s emergency request, entering the mountainous area to provide medical assistance and transport the injured to a hospital, per CNA.
The Chiayi County Police Bureau’s Zhuqi Precinct said the NTNU hiking group (three men and five women) had planned to camp at Qianrendong (千人洞) in the Fengshan Scenic Area during the three-day holiday. While hiking to the destination, they were attacked by hornets.
Two male students walking at the rear of the group suffered multiple stings, one of whom received seven stings. They immediately requested assistance from police and firefighters.

Police said the rescue team escorted the two injured to the Xingfeng Suspension Bridge trailhead, where an ambulance transferred them to a hospital for treatment. The remaining six students accompanied the team down the mountain.
Zhuqi Police Station said several other hikers have recently been stung by hornets at Qianrendong and urged hikers to refrain from camping or engaging in other activities at the site to prevent further incidents.
