TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — 7-Eleven said Tuesday it will roll out automated parcel pickup units across Taiwan by year-end.
The new system allows customers to collect e-packages without waiting in line or searching for locker numbers, per UDN. The launch is timed to coincide with Singles Day shopping season in Q4, per CNA.
This year, 7-Eleven has collaborated with the economics ministry to apply AI and Internet of Things to parcel services. Additionally, the company partnered with Leebao Technology for system integration.
The units can cut staff sorting time by at least 10% per day, using sensors to scan parcels and assign them to the right compartments. Each device requires only one ping (3.3 square meters) of space but can store more than 100 packages.
When customers pick up parcels, they can go directly to the machine, enter their information, and the system will automatically deliver the package.
7-Eleven said convenience stores remain the top choice for parcel pickup. To meet demand, the chain introduced self-pickup services in 2018 and now offers them at nearly 2,000 outlets.
