TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Changhua County Environmental Protection Bureau has fined 599 vehicles for excessive noise from January to August.
Of the 599 fines, 466 came from fixed devices, totaling over NT$970,000 (US$32,000), per CNA. Mobile devices accounted for 133 fines, adding up to around NT$300,000.
The bureau said the county operates nine fixed and two mobile sound-camera devices. Fixed cameras monitor high-traffic roads while mobile cameras are deployed flexibly at complaint hotspots.
Gongyuan Road in Changhua City recorded the most violations, with 105 fines totaling NT$212,625. The bureau said the road’s proximity to Provincial Highway 1 and County Highway 139 makes it a main route, where motorcyclists accelerate on uphill stretches.
The bureau urged motorists to comply with noise regulations to protect residents’ environmental peace. It warned that high-volume and high-speed roads would see strict monitoring.
