TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The US has reiterated its support for Taiwan’s inclusion in the International Civil Aviation Organization assembly, which opened on Tuesday in Montreal, Canada.
In a Facebook post, the American Institute in Taiwan said that the US backs Taiwan’s ascension in the ICAO and urged ICAO Secretary-General Juan Carlos Salazar and President Salvatore Sciacchitano to “facilitate Taiwan’s participation as a guest of the Council president at the 42nd ICAO Assembly.”
It added that Taiwan’s membership in ICAO would improve global aviation safety and security.
Taiwan has sent Lin Chun-liang (林俊良), deputy director-general of Taiwan’s Civil Aeronautics Administration, to lead a delegation to hold sideline meetings with partners and organizations. During a press conference on Tuesday, Lin said talks so far have produced concrete proposals and actionable recommendations.
Taiwan last attended the ICAO assembly in 2013.
