TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The first Taiwan–Thailand tourism exchange meeting set a target of 2 million mutual visitors, reports said Tuesday.
The meeting at Taipei’s Grand Hotel included delegations from the Taiwan Visitors Association, the Thai Tourism Travel Agents Association, and the Association of Thai Travel Agents, per CNA. The Tourism Administration said it will launch special promotions next year and work with airlines to reach the target, though it did not set a timetable.
The Taiwan Visitors Association said discussions focused on market analysis, travel for major traditional festivals, and cultural city tourism. With 194 direct flights per week between the two countries, exchanges should grow, said Honorary Chair Yeh Chu-lan (葉菊蘭).
The Tourism Administration noted that a visa waiver for Thai visitors introduced in 2016 and the opening of its Bangkok office in 2017 helped boost travel numbers.
The conference agreed to intensify cooperation and introduce new destinations to partners from both countries, with a follow-up meeting planned next year in Bangkok.
