TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Academia Sinica discussed the future of knowledge in an AI society at an international forum in Vietnam, reports said Tuesday.
Academia Sinica Vice President Peng Shin-kun (彭信坤) led the delegation at the Sept. 20–22 Pacific Neighborhood Consortium annual meeting in Hanoi. The Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences also welcomed experts from the US, the UK, Japan, China, South Korea, Indonesia, and Malaysia, per CNA.
Academia Sinica scholars presented papers linking the social sciences and AI under the theme “Mind Meets Machine: Rethinking Intelligence and Knowledge in the Age of AI.” Topics included using ChatGPT in compiling the global Arts and Architecture Thesaurus and designing a history of medicine.
Demonstrating its focus on international research, Academia Sinica also highlighted results on Han Nom, a writing system combining Chinese characters with locally developed Vietnamese characters used from the 15th to 20th centuries.
A digital platform linked museum and library content in Taiwan and Vietnam to launch online exhibitions. Academia Sinica also worked with the US-based Electronic Cultural Atlas Initiative to host six workshops at the Hanoi event promoting international cultural exchanges.
