TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung signed an agreement with the Asian Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce on Monday to streamline investment and resettlement for overseas Taiwanese businesspeople.
The deal includes a single consultation window for investment, property purchases, and settling in Taichung, per CNA. Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) signed the MOU with ATCC President Chen Shu-chin (陳舒琴) on behalf of the city.
Lu said the initiative reflects the cultural belief of “falling leaves returning to their roots,” per UDN. She said many overseas Taiwanese who succeed abroad wish to return home, but complicated procedures for property, healthcare, and taxes have been obstacles.
Chen welcomed the move, thanking the city for giving ATCC members faster access to comprehensive services. She said the channel will not only ease resettlement but also create a platform for cross-border business exchange, linking overseas Taiwanese in Asia with counterparts at home.
Lu noted that ATCC unites more than 20 chambers across Asia and said this is its first green-channel agreement. She said she hopes the program can expand to other regions, adding that overseas Taiwanese investment is vital as Taiwan faces tariff pressures from the US and seeks to diversify markets.
