TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Typhoon Ragasa's outer bands are expected to reach Taiwan’s southern tip before noon, with land warnings in place for parts of the south and east, according to the Central Weather Administration.
As of 8 a.m., Ragasa’s center was located about 370 km southeast of Eluanbi, moving northwest at 20 kph, per CNA. Maximum sustained winds reached 208 kph, with gusts of up to 262 kph and a storm radius of 320 km.
The CWA has issued land warnings for Pingtung County, Taitung County, and Kaohsiung. A sea warning is in place for the Bashi Channel, Dongsha Island, Taiwan's southeast waters, and the southern part of the Taiwan Strait.
CWA forecaster Wu Wan-hua (伍婉華) said Ragasa could intensify and is expected to have the greatest impact over the next two days. Wu added that rain is increasing over Hualien and Taitung, with Kaohsiung and Pingtung also seeing showers.
Starting in the afternoon, heavy to torrential rain is likely in Hualien, Taitung, Yilan, Pingtung’s mountains, Hengchun Peninsula, Orchid Island, and Green Island. Heavy rain is also possible in Greater Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Nantou, and mountainous areas in Kaohsiung.
Tuesday, heavy to torrential rain is expected in the east, Hengchun Peninsula, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and mountainous regions across the island.
