TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration issued a land warning for Typhoon Ragasa at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The typhoon continued to gain strength as it approached the Bashi Channel between Taiwan and the Philippines. It has increased in size and its trajectory shifted slightly northwest on Sunday afternoon, and could affect the Hengchun Peninsula, according to the CWA.
Typhoon Ragasa is likely to have the greatest impact on Taiwan sometime Tuesday and is expected to cause strong winds across the country over the next three days, reported CNA.
People in southern Taiwan should take precautions over the next 24 hours and avoid unnecessary travel. Those driving in mountainous regions should be careful of possible landslides or falling rocks.
Earlier on Sunday, the CWA issued a sea warning for Ragasa. The typhoon is expected to gain strength over the next 24 hours. The CWA warned those on the east coast to avoid going to the beach due to heavy rain and waves between three and six meters in height.
On Sunday night, Taitung announced closures of work and school for Green Island and Orchid Island, per CNA. Taitung, Pingtung, Penghu, and Lienchiang Counties will assess conditions Monday morning between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. to see if work and classes will be canceled, reported LTN.
