TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Democratic Progressive Party legislative caucus held a meeting on Friday to elect leadership, with Ker Chien-ming (柯建銘) reelected as caucus convener despite criticism following this summer’s Great Recall campaign.
Ker faced no opposition and will remain DPP caucus convener until February 2026. Chung Chia-pin (鍾佳濱) was elected caucus director, and Chen Pei-yu (陳培瑜) will resume her previous position as secretary-general, per CNA.
Before Friday’s vote, no legislators had registered or announced their intention to run for leadership roles, per CNA. Chung and Chen were nominated at the meeting, receiving 43 and 44 votes, respectively, from the 46 DPP legislators present.
Following the Great Recall campaign’s failure, there were calls within the party for leadership changes, with many criticizing Ker for strategic missteps. Citing a need to reorganize, Chen stepped down from her secretary-general post alongside former caucus director Wu Szu-yao (吳思瑤).
At a press conference after the vote, Ker expressed confidence in the caucus moving forward.
