TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration issued a maritime warning for Typhoon Ragasa on Sunday morning.
CWA said the storm’s center was about 770 kilometers southeast of Eluanbi, moving northwest at roughly 14–21 kph, with maximum sustained winds near the center around 172 kph. The warning covers southeastern waters, including Orchid Island and Green Island, as well as the Bashi Channel.
CWA forecaster Wu Wan-hua (伍婉華) said Ragasa is expected to intensify into a severe typhoon, with the most significant impact occurring on Monday and Tuesday. If the track holds, a land warning could be issued Sunday night, she said.
Wu forecast localized heavy to torrential rain in northern and eastern Taiwan, including Keelung, Hualien, Taitung, and Pingtung.
The typhoon will gradually move away by Wednesday, but heavy rain could persist in eastern Taiwan, Wu said.
